Treasure Baskets

One of the playtime activities I've tried is treasure baskets. Or discovery baskets. Or treasure bags. Or discovery bags. You get the idea. :)

Basically, you collect safe household items, put them in a basket or bag, and then let the baby explore!

The first time I did it, I used a bag. In it, there was a wooden spoon, a tupperware container, a paper cup, a noisemaker toy, a squishy toy, a taggie blanket, and a whisk.

I think she liked the bag; it made some crinkle noises.

Although I don't have a picture of it, the first thing she grabbed was the wooden spoon, probably because it stuck out a bit. Here are a few other pictures of her exploring the contents:

The next time, I used a basket. I included a wooden spoon, small wooden cutting board, one of her headbands, a noisemaker toy, a small piece of tupperware, a rice bag, two napkin rings, a crocheted hot plate, a napkin, a cupcake wrapper, and soft mallet.

This time, instead being propped on the couch, she sat on a blanket on the floor and only toppled over once, even as she was reaching for things. :)

She immediately went for the wooden spoon again, maybe because it was familiar to her. Or maybe she'll be a chef. :)

I'm pretty sure she got to everything at some point. She loved the cupcake wrapper (noisy!), but I had to take it away when it started to tear. I think the napkin was the least interesting to her (boring!).

Eventually, she became very interested in the basket. So of course, I put her in it. :)

I knew she was getting tired when she laid down to play. Time for a nap!

I think I'll start to theme the baskets:  kitchen items, fabrics, toys, maybe even an outside one with leaves and rocks. It's fun watching her explore the items, feel different textures, and hear different noises. And the bonus is:  no expensive, bulky baby toys in sight!

Happy Mardi Gras!

Even though we decided not to bring Lily to parades this year, she still had fun celebrating Mardi Gras!  She got to play with beads and wear fun colors!  Here are some pics from her backyard photo shoot:

Got the best picture in the first shot!

Cracking herself up!

What are these things??

Dress from GiGi, beads from Mimi!

Also reminiscing about Mardi Gras last year, when we announced that Lily was on her way!

So fun :)

Playtime!

Now that Lily is a bit older, she's super fun to play with!

Here are some fun playtime pictures:

She does really well playing on her own in the playpen for a while; she scoots all over in that thing!

I'm really not a fan of big, bulky baby toys, so I've made a few of my own. (Thanks, Pinterest!)

This is a tension rod with duct tape-covered toilet paper rolls attached to our living room ottoman. Lily likes to sit and spin the rolls.

This is a sensory toy made of hair gel, beads, duct tape, and a ziploc bag. It's super squishy and brightly colored, so she reaches for it a lot. It would also make a great stress reliever for adults!  :)

I have a few more ideas and projects, so I'll share them when they're complete!

Water play outside (and yes, of course the water was eventually spilled!)

Playing with blocks in her room

Playing in her high chair- her first time with (heavily sanitized) Mardi Gras beads. She loved the noise of the beads against her tray!

She also discovered the strap in her car seat and loves playing with it too!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I decided to take a few pictures of Lily on Valentine's Day, especially to send to Strother, since he's at work. I got some cute ones!

Lily is Six Months Old!

On Tuesday, Lily turned six months!  She is so fun, and we can already see some personality traits developing!  On Thursday, we went to the doctor. She weighs 16 pounds and is 25 inches long-still considered petite. :)

Here are some pictures and things Lily has been loving lately:

Lily loves:
**giggling
**her Sophie
**lotion
**getting her hair combed
